Kudos to Kader Shaikh: A Businessman Who Converted His Office into Hospital
Today, at Samprabha we are going to share a story of a Surat-based businessman who converted his 3-floor office (30,000 sq. feet) into 84 beds Covid-19 facilities.
In June, Kader Shaikh and his family members tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. They were having hard times when admitted to the hospital as they were not properly cared for by the hospital staff. His brother who admitted in a private hospital, in his words, "was being treated as if we were taking treatment for free". When the discharging time came, the hospital handed over the bill of ₹12.5 lac to Kader Shaikh. He was shocked to see the bill and even after paying such a huge amount, he saw no improvement in his brother's physique. It was then when he realised the pain of the poor.
Then he talked to the MP of the region Mrs Darshana Jardosh and expressed his wish to build a hospital for Corona patients. He specified that the hospital, managed by whosoever, should run it for free i.e., all the facilities including treatment, medication, food etc. should be free. He said that he had not good financial situations in the past, but now he has resources, therefore, it is his responsibility to serve the needy ones.
He got the permission very soon from the respective officers and then built the hospital in 20 days. There are 42-42 beds on two of the three floors and the third floor is kept reserved for the staying of medical staff. There are 10 ICU beds as well and all the beds have oxygen facility. There is no bar on the people based on religion, caste, etc. but yes, the poor is their first priority. The hospital is currently managed by Surat Municipal Corporation and there is an efficient team of doctors and medical care staff working for the noble objective. The hospital is named Hiba Hospital at Adajan in Surat.
We should be happy and feel blessed that we are living in such a world where we get to see such noble personalities. We can take inspiration from them and provide support to those, whom we can. Because together you and we can...
We must appreciate this effort. This is only one example. There are many people whom you and we don't know, since they do not want coverage for their noble deeds. Let's spread and celebrate the positivity around us with Samprabha.
